What is UGC NET exam and who conducts it?

UGC NET exam is conducted across the country. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The objective of this exam is to determine eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in universities and colleges.

To appear for UGC NET in Social Work, you must have a Master’s degree in Social Work (or related subject) with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Transgender). For JRF, the maximum age limit is 30 years (relaxation applicable for reserved categories).

There are two papers:

  • Paper I (50 questions, 100 marks): General Aptitude
  • Paper II (100 questions, 200 marks): Subject-specific (Social Work)

The exam is conducted only in online mode (CBT mode). The language of the exam is mainly in English and Hindi. (Except for language subjects)

The UGC NET exam is generally conducted twice a year. This exam is mainly conducted in June and December.

No, there is no negative marking in UGC NET exam.

NET qualified certificate is valid lifetime for Assistant Professors. But JRF qualified certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. (its period can be extended for maternity).
